Humanize the Web
Mon, 05/28/2012 - 06:35 — adminHu•man•ize–verb, the act of transforming an object, technology or place to suit human needs.
Web–noun, a place of shared human purpose.
This is a declaration of Domain7’s beliefs and approach to designing meaningful human experiences on the web. It is a set of principles we use to help businesses grow and people connect:
-
We believe the web inspires human stories
The web is the new campfire—a gathering place with an almost-magnetic pull, creating little pockets of community, sparking shared conversations. We see and support these social, story-focused gatherings—they are the sources of future change.
-
We believe the web is an open network for shared human purpose
The web is at its best when it facilitates connections, allowing people to share their best with others, and receive the same in return. We’re in this together.
-
We believe the web is a democratizing force
We all have equal access to the web. The flow of knowledge has no restraints—neither do new creations or collaboration. We foster the web’s openness, and see it as a healthy force that helps civilization move forward.
-
We will solve actual human problems
Humans are ever advancing, forging, failing, connecting, and learning—as such, their needs are constantly changing as well. We want to make tools that can continually solve those evolving problems. The technology that’s designed to meet real human needs is the one that will last.
-
We will design beautiful, interesting human places
You can tell when a place has been built with purpose, a project has been crafted with care, or content created with hard-fought passion and art. It has a magnetism that draws people in. We want to create places of depth and meaning that really work.
-
We will craft personalized, empathetic human experiences
The web gives us data and insight about the people who use our tools. How can we adapt them to suit those needs? Without invading privacy or being creepy, we want to help users accomplish their goals in a thoughtful, conversational way.
-
We believe the web is the result of human creativity and can’t wait to see what’s next
We made the web. It seems remarkable, but humans actually constructed the internet, produced its eclectic content and formed the communities behind it all. It is thrilling to see the new possibilities emerging as the web expands. We want to remain smack dab in the middle of it.
